Ukraine tells Lula “thanks but no thanks”
Despite Brazilian President Luiz Inàcio Lula da Silva's efforts to come up with a peace plan for the ongoing war in Europe, Ukraine replied Friday that it will not give up Crimea, a peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014, in exchange for the end of the conflict, something which the South American leader had suggested as a possible course of action. Why would it be any different now?
Why is the war weighing on the pockets of those involved? Because the war is for white Europeans? Why does Brazil want to show a strength it still doesn't have?
This war is not mine!
Ceasefires and negotiations only happen when one side is losing or both are too exhausted to fight on.

Russia’s offensive of the last few months has yielded nothing except very high casualties for the Russians, which they continue to suffer around Bakmut.
The Ukrainian offensive is about to begin now they have their new NATO MBTs etc.
We shall see how that goes, however even if it goes well (which it probably will, the Ukrainians have proved very adept at limited offensives) I seriously doubt it will be enough to persuade Putin to negotiate.
This is going to go on for a while longer.

Nine-Fingers believes he is a world-class statesman......only an ignorant, semi-illiterate, self-centered idiot would come to that conclusion....his first 100 days in government have been a disaster......no sustainable plan for the economy....his manifest intention is to do away with any kind of spending cap, which will, as it did in Dilma's lousy administration, take us down the drain.
All he has done is to revoke policies put in place by the last administration, and which, despite Bolsonaro's big mouth, were actually getting Brazil back on track.
For many of the ministerial positions he has prioritized indications of woke, leftist activists who only think of themselves.
But let's go to what matters....for ex., looking after the poor, by providing a decent education, public health services, public safety.....forget that ! ....once again, his solution is to throw a bit of money at them, and then do damned all else......he has just revoked a Sanitation Law, passed in 2020, whereby private investors could enter the basic sanitation market, finally addressing a decades-old problem - the lack of basic sanitation ; Brazil has over 100 million people who don't have access to sewage systems, 'n 35 million who don't have access to clean drinking water, yet the ex-convict pefers to leave the sanitation business in the hands of State-run companies that have invested very little to improve the systems, and have been doing a lousy job for decades....healthy competion is not something the PT defends....it couldn't give a damn about the people......but they voted him in, so let them lump it.

Here, on the Northeastern coastline, the string of fishing villages has been promised piped water for decades by the various municipal mayoral candidates (of both stripes), but nothing ever happens. There are interlocking corrupt interests blocking any sort of permanent infrastructure improvements. As an ex-engineer I put in probably the only properly designed drain and leach field in this area for my house. Everyone else still dumps their sewage directly into the permeable ground, polluting the aquifer. The blame also falls on the electorate. As long as they receive free tanker loads of (non-potable) water delivered, they are content to remain captives of this system and continue the lethargy of inaction, wearing the free T-shirts and caps handed out during the last election cycle.

Neither is willing or capable of building even basic infrastructure such as water and sewage systems, due to local corruption.
Until you fix this aspect, it doesn’t matter who’s in power things are not going to change for large sections of the population.
But then the same could probably be said for most of S. America.
We return to politics. A Brazil is in favor of the Strong State. Another Brazil is in favor of the Weak State.

The above mentioned idiot must be thinking that the growth experimented in 2004 was the result of Nine-finger's policies....wrong again - it was the result of :
1) policies put in place by the previous administration of FHC (who implemented the Plano Real, 'n which the PT voted against) ;
2) the agribusiness which was already becoming a major player in Brazil's economy, and
3) the demand for commodities and the world's trading boom.
The fact that the benefits were reaped by the ex-con, is why the lefties have the false impression that their eternal (ignorant) leader might have been responsible....
The lefties don't like serious stats, they prove them wrong...every time..

Our inlaws made some very smart investments in the '90s that have blossomed. (They were in the processes of converting into the Euro while we visited.)
Although we're tired of vacationing, certainly Croatia has become our favorite destination in Europe. (Obviously medical reasons keep our agenda very limited.)
One thing that shocked us there, was all the numerous deserted small villages in the hillsides completely empty.
Civil war has left a terrible scar...

Since then they have joined the EU which includes the free movement of people within the EU. As a result of which many, particularly young, Croatians have left seeking better opportunities in other EU countries. It is actually becoming quite a serious problem in that part of Europe.

Yes, by and large I concur, Stink and Chicureo obviously do have a rapport, which I respect as a matter between them.
I would also add that, I have travelled further than most and for longer than most and in places where most do not go, and in all that time I have only ever, on a few occasions, encountered someone as bitter and twisted as Stink. A ‘not-so-savoury past’ I would say is a given here.
Probably still had to go to that expensive school wearing short trousers, when everyone else was wearing long ones. That kind of thing can affect a person for life. The bottom of a whiskey glass being the only lens he had to view the world through, until the doctors told him he had to dry out.
