As all to often seen government is typically trying to maximise its funds but while doing so waste millions on unsustainable projects. If all the money over the last thirty years that have been wasted the islands could of had the rolls Royce of a new dock and everyone would be happy.
Sometimes cutting of the nose really does spite the face.
I have to agree with the concerns of the fishing industry and other businesses that are going through ot could eventually face financial difficulties due to the lack of understanding of the business infrastructure.
Even the new wool warehouse is 500 bales smaller than it should be. So investment money not that well spent.
Time for a complete overhaul of our administration maybe.

clearly difficult to determine resource rent at appropriate level. clearly fig doesn't need the money but it would do if it was not subsided by the uk taxpayer for current non-defence freebies such as free nhs health care for fi patients referred to uk for treatment and free tuition for further education fi students and (lower) home student fees for higher education fi students. it's not only the cost of defence and foreign affairs which is met by the uk taxpayer. fig is responsible for internal self-government but doesn't pay the full cost.

Nah, these days Falklands are a net contributor to the UK, not a cost.

Defence cost is less than 0.2% of the defence budget, even then they are deployable forces so if they were not in the S. Atlantic they would be somewhere else and cost just as much.

If you close MP next month you would not save anything but simply add the cost of moving everything elsewhere.

Anyway, if the cost were 10 x that and 2.0% of the defence budget, this would not be a problem to the British.

Such is the importance the British attach to defending the Islanders rights and British sovereignty in the S. Atlantic/Antarctic.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story, eh!

The cost of defending the Islands is currently met by Her Majesty's Government, and is estimated to amount 0.177% of the total UK Defence budget annually. Beyond the cost of defence, the Falkland Islands do not receive any further financial assistance from the United Kingdom.

Portman, the NHS doesn't fund FI National Health, nor does it fund education, even when the students go to the UK for further education. Please, get your facts straight before posting falsehoods.

If Cheryl Roberts says the new fees are too high they must be. It’s not as if she has any reason to exaggerate or anything… and she is stuck with that damn ITQ quota for life.
