G7: Milei mingles with world leaders but no picture with Lula

Argentine President Javier Milei began mingling with the elite of the global leadership Friday at the exclusive Italian resort of Borgo Egnazia where the G7 Summit is taking place. Although the South American country is not a member of the group pitting together the seven largest world economies, he attended as a guest at the invitation of host Prime Minister Georgia Meloni who welcomed him personally.

Petrobras CEO regrets time spent without exploring Equatorial Margin

Petrobras' newly appointed CEO Magda Chambriard said this week that Brazil's state-run oil company “lost 10 years” by not exploring an area known as the new “pre-salt” and criticized the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) for the delay in authorizing oil explorations in the so-called Equatorial Margin, Agencia Brasil reported.

Brazilian Jan. 8 fugitives said to be hiding in Argentina

Brazilian authorities have requested Argentina's help to arrest around 143 fugitives who have been tried and convicted for their involvement in the Jan. 8, 2023, riots in Brasilia. The escapees are believed to be supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro who fled to Argentina in the hope of being granted political asylum given President Javier Milei's affinity with the conservative retired Army captain.

Hundreds of asylum seekers stranded at Sao Paulo's main airport

São Paulo's Guarulhos Airport has 291 asylum seekers held in a restricted area pending the approval of their applications, Agencia Brasil reported Thursday. Most of the travelers stemmed from India, it was also explained.

Argentina's Indec says May's CPI reached 4.2%

Argentina's National Institute of Statistics and Census (Indec) announced Thursday that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) had grown 4.2% in May, which was celebrated by the Libertarian administration of President Javier Milei as another sign of a slow victory over inflation despite the 71.9% recorded in the first five months of 2024 and the 276.4% yoy.
