    The Argentine administration of President Javier Milei sent this week a bill to Congress to make legal gun ownership easier while at the same time encouraging holders wishing to do so to dispose of their weapons. According to the Security Ministry, there are some 800,000 unregistered firearms users nationwide.

The South American country was preferred to the consortium formed by Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. It will be the tenth version of the competition and the first in this part of the globe.

    Retired Colombian Colonel Elmer Fernández, director of the La Modelo prison in Bogotá, was gunned down by hitmen Thursday, Justice Minister Nestor Osuna confirmed. The assassination was carried out down a national road north of the country's capital, it was explained. Fernández was not driving his vehicle.
