Argentina clinches deal to sell Vaca Muerta gas to Brazil

Argentina's Economy Minister Luis Toto Caputo and his Brazilian Energy Counterpart Alexandre Silveira signed Monday on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro an agreement whereby gas from Vaca Muerta will be pumped starting next year, reaching 30 million cubic meters per day as from 2030, which is the same volume that South America's largest country used to buy from Bolivia.

Rio G20 Declaration signed – Argentina adheres only partially

G20 Leaders Monday signed at the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro a joint 85-item declaration in which they addressed the world's current challenges. However, Argentine President Javier Milei announced he would not be endorsing the so-called 2030 Agenda goals.

US to release aid package for Brazilian Amazon

The United States offered an aid package for environmental actions in the Brazilian Amazon to address climate change, it was announced Monday during President Joseph Biden's visit to Manaus as part of his journey to the country for the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Agencia Brasil reported. The first trip by a sitting US president to the region marked celebrations of 200 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Ortega discloses blueprints for projected Nicaragua Canal

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega Monday launched the blueprints for a 445-kilometer long canal through his country linking the Caribbean SSea with the Pacific Ocean, which would be an alternative to the existing transoceanic path in Panama, where the United States has a key say.

Brazil increasingly dependent on oil exports and energy production

Crude oil has become Brazil’s main export product surpassing agribusiness and mining, according to the country’s hydrocarbons company Petrobras CEO Magda Chambriard. Brazil is not also becoming highly dependent on oil exports but also in energy generation.

Paraguayan President hospitalized during Rio G20 with chest pains

Paraguayan President Santiago Peña was admitted into Rio de Janeiro's Hospital Samaritano Monday while attending the G20 Summit as a guest. The 46-year-old South American leader will remain at the healthcare facility pending the outcome of a series of medical tests after feeling chest pains, Vice President Pedro Alliana said on social media.

Argentina becomes newest founding member of Lula's alliance against hunger

Javier Milei's Argentina became after last-minute negotiations the 82nd country to join the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, Brazil's initiative launched during the two-day G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro. With Buenos Aires' decision, no G20 country stayed out of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's partnership which is also made up of the African Union and the European Union, in addition to 9 financial institutions, 24 international organizations, and 31 philanthropic and non-governmental entities, totaling 148 founding members.

Lavrov arrives in Rio for G20 Summit as world tensions escalate

Russia’s Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov arrived Sunday in Rio de Janeiro to head his country's delegation attending the two-day G20 Summit starting Monday in the former Brazilian capital while President Vladimir Putin stayed in Moscow as winds of World War III blew again during the weekend after US President Joseph Biden gave his nod to Kyiv using US-built missiles.
