    FIG appoints Steve Dent as new Director of Development & Commercial Services

    The Falkland Islands Government has announced the appointment of Steve Dent as the next Director of Development & Commercial Services. Steve joined FIG in 2023, and for the last three years has been Deputy Director of DCS, with direct line-management responsibility for a number of key FIG sections as well as commercial contracts within the directorate’s remit.

    More than fifty institutions and cultural centers located around Santiago's main avenue agreed on Tuesday to expand their cooperation and coordinate their programming to turn that historic thoroughfare into a cultural hub, similar to those in other capitals such as Buenos Aires or Madrid. Museums, theaters, libraries, cinemas and universities created the Red Alameda Cultural, a platform on which they will publish all their activities to enliven the corridor and offer citizens a complete cultural experience.

    Leftist Roberto Sánchez moved ahead in the count of Peru's presidential runoff, in an election being decided vote by vote. With about 95% of the tally sheets processed by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Sánchez had around 50.1% of the vote, against 49.9% for conservative Keiko Fujimori, a lead of some 41,000 ballots. The result, however, is not final: the votes of Peruvians abroad, historically favorable to the right, have yet to be counted.

    Brazil suspends its dengue vaccine as a precaution after two deaths

    The vaccine was approved by the regulatory agency ANVISA in late 2025 for people aged 12 to 59, and the campaign began in February with health personnel

    Brazil temporarily suspended the dengue vaccination campaign it began in January, after detecting two deaths and several cases of serious adverse reactions. The vaccine, the world's first single-dose shot, was developed by the Butantan Institute in São Paulo and had already been given to half a million people through the public health system. Health authorities stressed that there is not yet enough data to link the deaths to the product and that the interruption is a preventive measure.
