    Paraguay cleared to ship beef on the bone to Israel

    Sheep meat may too be exported soon to Israel, it was explained

    Paraguay has been authorized by Israel's Veterinary and Animal Health Service (IVSAH) to sell beef on the bone to that country, the National Animal Health and Quality Service (Senacsa) announced Sunday in Asunción. Uruguay Israel's approval on Jan. 8.

    Paraguay's incipient pig farming exported 5,500 tons of pork to Taiwan in 2023

    Paraguay pork exports, including offal, reached 7,689 tons in 2023. This signifies a substantial increase of 541% compared to 2022, when only 1,184 tons were shipped.

    Following on the opening of the Taiwanese market for Paraguay pork exports, 2023 finished with a remarkable growth of 550%, over 2022, both in volume and value. Paraguay is one of the very few countries in the world that still has full diplomatic relations with the Republic of China, better known as Taiwan.

    Second victim dies of equine encephalitis in Argentina

    All 10 cases in the province of Buenos Aires required hospitalization, with only four of them discharged so far

    Health authorities in the Argentine province of Buenos Aires Thursday confirmed the first death due to Western equine encephalitis in the territory which was also the second nationwide. The victim was a 74-year-old woman with comorbidities from a semi-rural area. All 10 cases in the province -in General Viamonte, Junín, Leandro N. Alem, Arrecifes, Baradero, La Plata, Ramallo, Campana, and Bragado- required hospitalization, with only four of them discharged so far.

    US farmers and beef lobbies want to stop the import of fresh meat from Paraguay

    Senators Mike Rounds, R-South Dakota, and Jon Tester, D-Montana, announced they would file a Congressional Review Act resolution to overturn the decision

    A wide ranging alliance of US government officials, cattle farmers and beef organizations gathered to strongly oppose the purchase and import of fresh beef from Paraguay, but a final ruling from the US Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service decided in favor of the Mercosur country member. The decision became effective last December 14 and opens the doors to the Paraguayan produce.

    In the first eleven months of 2023, Paraguayan exports amounted to US$ 15.8787 billion, which represented a 24% interannual growth, it was reported in Asunción. The improvement was significantly explained by higher shipments of soybeans, rice, and soybean meal, which accounted for 69.3% of the sales abroad, reaching US$ 11,001.6 million, a 19.1% increase from November 2022.
