  Brazil expects a new record crop 2024/25, with rice experiencing the largest area growth

  

  The first estimate for the coming 2024/25 grains crop in Brazil indicates a total production of some 322,47 million tons, according to Conab, the country's national supply corporation. If finally confirmed this would represent another record production, with a 8,3% increase over the previous 2023/24 harvest, equivalent to 24,6 million tons.

  Since Monday 1 July 2024, three suspect birds/animals have been reported, 2 sets of swabs have been taken. One set returned positive results and 1 set of negative results. There are 3 sets of swabs pending.

  Bluetongue restriction zone in the UK widened

  

  The UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said it had extended the regional bluetongue restriction zone after two cases of the disease were reported along the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire border. This means following restrictions on moving animals.

  Paraguay's Central Bank reports 0.2% inflation in September

  

  According to a report from Paraguay's Central Bank (BCP) released Wednesday in Asunción, the South American country's inflation in September stood at 0.2% for a cumulative 2.9% so far this year, which represented a yoy setback from the 2.5% in the same period of 2023.

  Paraguay exports US$ 665 million worth of beef to Chile

  

  During a gathering this week at Chile's Embassy in Asunción to celebrate the 214th anniversary of the country's independence, Ambassador Manuel Francisco Gormaz Lira highlighted that Paraguay was Chile's fifth-largest trading partner in the region and the tenth-largest in the world. Yearly trade between the two countries amounted to US$ 1.8 billion.

  Falklands, confirmed case of avian influenza in Surf Bay, close to Stanley

  

  The Falkland Islands Director of Natural Resources has released the following, “On Monday 16 September 2024 swabs that were taken from a dead Gentoo penguin on Surf Bay were tested and returned positive for HPAI. Given that this is an isolated case of one single bird, that is more than 1km from poultry or a colony, a level 1 response will be followed and a full protection zone will not be declared.”
