  Chilean court ruling grants right to non-binary ID

  

  A ruling by Chile's Judiciary where a Law School team represented the plaintiffs has recognized -based on the examples of Colombia, Argentina, and Canada- the right of non-binary gender people of legal age to change their birth certificate and mark it with an “X” instead of “feminine” or “masculine,” it was reported in Santiago.

  Face masks again become mandatory in Punta Arenas because of Covid and respiratory viruses

  

  Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales, southern Chile, have again reinstated the mandatory use of face masks in closed spaces and in open places where people can't keep a physical distance of at least one meter. Likewise massive events will have a maximum presence of 10,000 people with face masks, and there will also be limits to the Mobility Pass, unless space allows a one meter distance minimum.

  Chile reducing unemployment, albeit slowly

  

  Chile's National Institute of Statistics (INE) Wednesday released a report showing a 7.8% unemployment rate for the March/May 2022 quarter, a 0.1% turn for the worse when compared to the February-April period, although, overall, nearly 96% of the jobs lost during the COVID-19 pandemic have been recovered.

  Chilean copper mine workers have agreed to lift their strike after reaching an agreement with the state-owned Chilean National Copper Corporation (Codelco), it was announced Thursday.

  First Chilean-built icebreaker 60% complete

  

  At a total cost of around US$ 210 million, Chile's first home-built icebreaker is already 60% complete and plans to be seaworthy by the time of the XII International Naval Exhibition and Congress in Valparaíso in December, it was reported.
