Argentine rugby union admits concern about possible incidents when England plays next June

‘Olympic’ embarrassment for Brazil which is forced to close indefinitely major stadium

A stadium in Brazil that was due to host athletics at the 2016 Olympics has been closed indefinitely because of structural problems with its roof. The Joao Havelange stadium in Rio de Janeiro was built only six years ago. It was also being used as the main football venue in Rio, while the city's Maracana stadium is being renovated for next year's World Cup.

Blatter calls on all member associations to help combat corruption in soccer

World soccer's governing body cannot battle corruption in the game alone and national associations must also join in, according to FIFA president Sepp Blatter. He believes all of FIFA's 209 member associations plus the continental confederations should follow its example by setting up independent ethics committees to investigate and punish any corrupt behaviour by their officials.

FIFA 2014 World Cup presents ambassadors and unveils the official poster

The newly appointed ambassadors of the 2014 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday 30 January 2013, unveiled the tournament’s Official Poster at a media briefing in Rio de Janeiro. Four FIFA World Cup winners, Amarildo, Carlos Alberto Torres, Bebeto and Ronaldo, as well as women’s football star Marta, were invited by FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke to end the suspense and help unveil the design.
