  Following on the driest October since at least 1950, the Panama Canal Authority has said it has been forced to cut the number of ships using the waterway. This will naturally have an impact on the cost of shipping goods across the world.

  Southern Ocean around Antarctica in deep trouble, 200 scientists report from 19 countries

In some areas Antarctic sea ice was even increasing. That was until 2016, when everything changed. The annual extent of winter sea ice stopped increasing. Now we have had two years of record lows.

  Storm in São Paulo leaves at least 7 people dead

  

  Local authorities confirmed Sunday that the death toll from the storm that hit São Paulo last Friday had risen to 7, Agencia Brasil reported. The latest victim accounted for was a crew member of a boat that sank off Ilhabela while two survivors from the same vessel had been rescued, according to the State’s Civil Defense.

  Watch out for jellyfish in UK warmer waters

  

  Jellyfish sightings in UK waters jumped by 32% compared to the previous year, according to the Marine Conservation Society. Most were on the UK's west coasts, particularly in Cornwall and Wales, and 11% were of large blooms of more than 100.

  One tree was reported fallen among other damages caused by the extratropical cyclone hitting the Uruguayan Department (province) of Maldonado where the exclusive beach resort of Punta del Este is located.

  Iguazú Falls closed to visitors as water levels rise above normal

  

  Due to recent heavy rains on the Brazilian side, the tourist attraction of the Iguazú Falls has been closed to visitors at least until Wednesday pending damage assessments given a water flow 16 times higher than usual, it was reported.
