    Falklands and privateer/pirate captain David Jewett 1820 adventure

    According to historian Dr. Graham Pascoe, Argentina did not instruct Captain David Jewett to take possession of the Falklands

    In response to Argentina’s planned commemorations of the 200th anniversary of the visit to the Falklands by the privateer captain David Jewett in 1820 and his purported “taking of possession” of the Islands for Argentina, historian Graham Pascoe has released the paper ‘David Jewett’s visit to the Falklands, 1820-21: no valid “possession-taking.” Dr. Pascoe notes in his abstract that before David Jewett arrived he had captured a neutral Portuguese ship, and he captured another neutral US ship in the Islands.

    Researcher study of seabird ecosystem shift in the Falklands

    To understand how Falklands' seabirds might cope in a warmer climate, scientists set out to study the history of climate change and ecological changes on Islands

    Roughly 5,000 years ago, seabirds colonized the Falkland Islands in record numbers. The new research – published in the journal Science Advances – suggests the seabirds arrived around the same time that the South Atlantic cooled, and their arrival shifted the ecosystems on the Falkland Islands.

    Falklands celebrates completion of demining with a symbolic “Reclaim the Beach”

    On Saturday 14 November 2020, the Falkland Islands community will be taking part in celebrations to mark the completion of the Islands-wide demining program after 38 years since the end of the 1982 conflict. The Falklands' Government has announced that activities will begin with an event to officially reopen Gypsy Cove/Yorke Bay, the final area of the Falklands to officially be declared mine-free.

    OAS reiterates support for Falklands' sovereignty talks between Argentina and UK

    Minister Solá thanked hemisphere countries for their continued solidarity in the recovery of the South Atlantic Islands

    The General Assembly of the Organization of American States, OAS, supported a declaration on the Falklands/Malvinas question, reaffirming once again the need for the governments of Argentina and the United Kingdom to resume negotiations on the disputed sovereignty with the purpose of finding a peaceful solution to the prolonged controversy.

    Falklands government replies to Argentina's sovereignty claims at the OAS General Assembly

    Minister Wendy Morton, acting as observer delegate spoke on Wednesday at the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) in response to the speech made by the Argentine Foreign Minister Felipe Solá, in which he again claimed sovereignty over the Falkland Islands.

    South Georgia message to potential visitors, “If you can get here, we are open”

    Commissioner Nigel Phillips CBE noted that the island is a destination and not a gateway, and as such is dependent on international travel restrictions

    A FIGAS refurbished BN-2 Islander delivered to Air Alderney

    The 1987-vintage aircraft was previously operated by the FIGAS as VP-FBI. It remains parked at London Biggin Hill, according to Flightradar24 ADS-B data, but is in Air Alderney's livery.

    Air Alderney has taken delivery of its first BN-2 Islander in the form of G-BLNI (msn 2188), according to the UK civil aircraft register. The 1987-vintage aircraft was previously operated by the Falkland Islands Government Air Service, FIGAS as VP-FBI. It remains parked at London Biggin Hill, according to Flightradar24 ADS-B data, but is already in Air Alderney's livery.

    Falklands' incursion and landing by an Argentine submarine at Cow Bay in October 1966

    Submarine ARA Santiago del Estero, S12, which allegedly was involved in operation Cow Bay

    A top-secret operation from the Argentine navy, which apparently took place in October 1966, was revealed by an Argentine newspaper, El Diario Nuevo Día, from the province of Santa Cruz. The operation took place when the submarine ARA Santiago del Estero, emerged at Cow Bay, in East Falkland, north of Stanley, and had a couple of teams land and survey the beach and surrounding areas with most probably a future invasion purpose.

    Falklands examining quarantine regulations making them more rigorous

    The Falkland Islands quarantine regulations are being examined by Members of Legislative Assembly with a view to tightening up rules and interpretation of rules, according to an interview with this week's Penguin News.
