    Falklands, Navitas updates emission assessment of Sea Lion environmental impact statement

    The Falkland Islands Government has started a public consultation on this revised EIS from Tuesday, 2 July 2024 to 13 August 2024.

    The Israeli/US company preparing to extract oil from Falkland Islands waters, Navitas Petroleum Development and Production Ltd. (Navitas) has issued a revised Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) concerning its proposals for the drilling of oil wells and offshore production from the Sea Lion Field Northern Development Area, Phase 1 and 2, which includes additional information on atmospheric emissions.

    Falklands extra funds for Tussac House project, to be finished by end of year

    Additional funds are required due to an overspend required to ensure that the project is completed to the high standard set by the Falkland Islands Government.

    Following approval at the Falkland Islands Executive Council on Tuesday 25 June, it was agreed for additional funds to be allocated to the Tussac House, sheltered homes project.

    Labour's emphatic NO to any Falklands sovereignty talks with Argentina

    Lammy (right) who is of Guiana origin, underlined the interest of a government headed by Labor leader Keir Starmer of closer relations with the Caribbean and South America.

    The United Kingdom Labour's foreign affairs spokesperson David Lammy replied with an emphatic NO, when asked if a British government led by the Labour party would be prepared to sit and discuss Falklands/Malvinas sovereignty with Argentine president Javier Milei.

    Team Falklands, which recently visited the Caribbean, United States, and United Nations in New York and Canada felt they came across a new attitude towards peoples' right to self-determination, mostly privately, which anyhow did not prevent overwhelming support for Argentina's colonial claim over the Falkland Islands at the C24 meeting, or a repeat of such situation at the Organization of American States, OAS, annual assembly, held in Paraguay.

    The Falklands team has ended its successful tour and contacts in Canada, following on a very busy June in the US holding meetings with members of the US Congress, State Department, and NGOs, plus the annual farce of the United Nations Special Decolonization Committee, or C24, where its members, many of them with governments in open violation of the UN charter principles, particularly when it comes to human rights and peoples' rights, have the time to openly support Argentina's claim over the Falkland Islands.

    Falklands Museum Sea Harrier and Lynx Helicopter presented in UK media

    Forces.net, a UK armed forces platform has published that a Royal Navy Sea Harrier and a Lynx helicopter – a combat veteran of the Falklands War – have completed their 8,000-mile journey to the Falkland Islands. The Sea Harrier ZH801 and Lynx XZ725 were taken by road on the final leg of their trip to Stanley where they will become main exhibits in the city's museum.
