From the Pitcairn Islands in the Southern Pacific Ocean to the British Indian Ocean Territory almost 10,000 miles away, the British Overseas Territories (OTs) all have one thing in common – they are British.
While commercial whaling in the twentieth century killed big whale populations, it also appears to have had a long-term impact on the genetic variety of today's surviving whales, according to a piece by Nature World News extracted from Journal of Heredity.

British media is reporting that Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said he will visit the Falkland Islands to assert the UK’s control of them after a “run-in” with the Argentine government.
The Falkland Islands Customs & Immigration Service informed that, due to large numbers of applications for permanent residence permits this month, acceptance of further applications will temporarily be suspended until Tuesday 2 January 2024.
The oil and gas exploration company with interests in the Falkland Islands, Rockhopper Exploration PLC, declared a pretax loss in the six months ended June 30 of US$ 2.6 million, from USD749,000 a year prior, as administrative expenses jumped 40% to 2.1 million pounds.
The Falkland Islands will be present at the annual Conservative Party conference scheduled to begin on Sunday and last until Wednesday, 4 October, when the Prime Minister will be giving one of the closing speeches.
