    Top Argentine official makes the round of talks and contacts in Spain to complain about Falklands fishing industry

    Guillermo Carmona, secretary of the Malvinas, Antarctica and Southern Atlantic Islands held a round of political talks in Spain in the framework of the bi-national cooperation understandings contemplated in the Buenos Aires Declaration from 2021. The document was signed by Argentine president Alberto Fernandez and his Spanish peer Pedro Sánchez and addressed the Argentina/Spain joint strategic action plan 2021/2023 referred to the Falklands/Malvinas and Gibraltar Questions as well as Antarctic and oceans cooperation.

    Foreign Office Travel Advice for the Falklands and Chile

    Most visits to the Falkland Islands are trouble-free and there is little crime or disorder.

    The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has updated (February 7) its travel advises to the Falkland Islands and to Chile, with the usual main points of its reports: Summary, Coronavirus, Safety and Security, Terrorism, Local Laws and Customs, Entry requirements, Natural Disasters, Health, Money, Travel Advice and Support.

    Falklands patrol HMS Forth on maintenance; replaced by HMS Medway

    The British Forces South Atlantic Command this week welcomed the arrival of HMS Medway at Mare Harbor. HMS Medway is a Batch 2 River class offshore patrol vessel, currently commissioned and since 2019 assigned long-term as Royal Navy guard ship in the Caribbean.

    Falklands Veterinary Officers report on Gentoo rookery Penguin pox

    Juvenile Gentoo penguin deaths swabs were taken to be tested for avian influenza and have returned a negative result to the N1 gene.

    On Tuesday 24 January, Veterinary Officers and Falkland Landholdings representatives visited Berthas Beach following reports of several juvenile Gentoo penguin deaths. The unwell and dead penguins that were reported displayed severe penguin pox lesions.

    Argentine FM thanks Chinese colleague for support regarding Malvinas

    Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero Monday thanked his new Chinese colleague Qin Gang during a telephone conversation for the Asian Giant's support for the South American country's claim over the Malvinas/Falkland Islands. Qin Gang had become China's new Foreign Minister on Dec. 30, 2022. Both top diplomats concurred that a peaceful solution was needed for the South Atlantic dispute.
