The Falkland Islands Government has confirmed that, as part of its efforts to contribute to the worldwide Coronavirus relief response, it has made a donation of £5,000 to Centro de Promoción por la Dignidad Humana (CEPRODIH), based in Uruguay.
The Falkland Islands Referendum held on Thursday, resulted in a defeat for the concept of a single constituency. Neither of the two current constituencies Camp or Stanley, garnered the two thirds support for a single constituency.
The Falkland Islands Government provided details on Wednesday of a range of support schemes designed specifically to mitigate the effects of the global pandemic on tourism businesses, operators, and employees over the next twelve months, as well as prepare the sector to take advantage of renewed demand in 2021 and beyond.
The Falkland Islands Government is pleased to announce the establishment of a Committee for the 40th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Falkland Islands. Chaired by former MLA Phyl Rendell, the Committee will be responsible for agreeing the framework for what will be a year-long programme of celebration and commemoration in 2022. The Committee will ensure that events and activities are coordinated and that everyone across the Falkland Islands – as well as friends overseas – can contribute.
The Falkland Islands Tourist Board has also worked alongside the Government to identify ways in which it too could assist with helping position the sector to take advantage of demand in 2021/22 and beyond. To this end the tourist board has reallocated existing budgets and earmarked funds totaling £380,000 as follows:
