    The United Kingdom Needs More Europe, Not Less

    Falklands' government announces the on line Statute Law Database

    The important publication achieves the Government’s Islands Plan object to improve access to the law, and reflects a vital commitment to uphold the rule of law

    The Falkland Islands Government has announced the on-line publication of the laws of the Falkland Islands. A public demonstration of the on-line Statute Law Database will take place in Stanley at the Court and Council Chamber at 5.30pm on Wednesday 2 August 2017. Members of the public may also access a paper copy of the Statute Law Database through the public library.

    Falklands' fishing fleet has a female officer, Manuela Mendez

    Manuela is the 2nd Mate of the trawler New Polar catching Loligo, and has a wide-ranging role, contributing to many aspects of running the ship

    Manuela Mendez from the port of Corme, in Galicia, north-west Spain, is believed to be the first female officer in the Falklands' fishing fleet. The Second Mate arrived in Stanley harbor this week. After five years training in merchant shipping and a year on board another fishing vessel, Ms. Mendez joined the crew of Falkland’s trawler, New Polar, last year and is making her second trip to Falklands’ waters.

    Falklands' issues Crown coin on 35th anniversary of Liberation Day

    The government and Treasury of the Falkland Islands have issued (11th July) a new crown coin which remembers the 35th anniversary of the day the Islands were officially and wholly liberated from invading Argentine military forces.

    Falklands' lawmaker Michael Poole will study for an MSc at the London School of Economics.

    “My hope is that an MSc in Public Policy & Administration will be of great help to me when I return to the Islands next year”, said MLA Poole.

    A member of the Legislative Assembly has been named as the Falkland Islands’ latest Chevening scholar. Michael Poole MLA will head to the London School of Economics (LSE) to study for an MSc in Public Policy & Administration after the current Assembly completes its term in late September.

    Falklands' Tourist Board focuses on digital marketing strategy

    The current focus of the Falkland Islands Tourist Board's digital marketing strategy is social media marketing using Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, confirmed Executive Director Stephanie Middleton. The Board has turned to the popular sites in order to raise awareness of the Falklands and in turn increase the number of visitors in the new website.

    Argentina confident Falklands dialogue is advancing gently

    Faurie linked the success of Falklands' current negotiations as long as they are approached gently, avoiding “susceptibilities” such as the Islands' sovereignty

    Argentine foreign minister Jorge Faurie said dialogue on the Falkland/Malvinas Islands with the United Kingdom is “advancing” and both countries are determined to “enrich the relation”, but it is a path which is possible as long as the sovereignty of the Islands is not discussed.

    Refuelling Hub for South Atlantic Airbridge confirmed as Cape Verde

    The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is pleased to announce that a final decision has been taken on the location of the refuelling hub for the South Atlantic Airbridge (SAA). The SAA will continue to transit through Sal, Cape Verde until 2020, when the Ascension Island runway resurfacing project is expected to be complete.
