  Falklands secondary education students achieve excellent results

  

  The Falkland Islands have reported another education success. A 62% of Falkland Islands Community School GCSE students have gained five or more GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) at Grade C or above.

  Falklands' war Peruvian air force Mirage on exhibition in Cordoba

  

  One of the ten fighter bombers donated by Peru to Argentina during the 1982 South Atlantic conflict is being exhibited in the Velez Sarsfield Plaza, at the heart of Cordoba City, as part of the 105 anniversary celebrations of the Argentine Air Force.

  An option for Falklands? Prototype technology for unearthing minefields in peat soil with fire

  

  Engineers have developed prototype technology that uses controlled burning to partially reveal landmines buried in peat soil. The researchers from Imperial College London have developed technology called O-Revealer that ignites peat, causing a smoldering fire that strips the upper layer of soil to reveal the landmines, making it easier to dispose of them.

  Falklands issues coins in recognition of fisheries conservation policies

  

  The government and treasury of the Falkland Islands have issued new coins which recognize 30 years of work conducted by the Falkland Islands Fisheries Department (FIS) to help maintain fish populations around the Islands. FIS, responsible for the sustainable development of fisheries in the Falklands, was established in 1987.

  Falklands commends officers, and Toby, for drug seizure in a trawler

  

  The Falklands government and the UK Ministry of Defense held an event to congratulate officers involved in a drug seizure from a trawler. Corporal Amanda Matthews and Customs Officer Matt Jenkins attended Government House on Tuesday night to receive commendations for their recent successful joint operation which resulted in a drug seizure.

  Ten Falklands' students in great performance achieve required points for university

  

  The Falkland Islands Education Department has congratulated all A Level students on their results, since they have achieved the required points to continue their studies if they wish to.

  Indian Navy all women team in global tour scheduled to call in Falklands

  

  A six-member women’s team of the Indian Navy will set sail in early September to circumnavigate the globe on the sailing vessel, INSV Tarini. This is the first-ever circumnavigation of the globe by an all-woman crew from India, and one of the calls will take place in the Falkland Islands.

  Baton’s subpolar stopover in Falklands before Europe

  

  The Commonwealth Games Queens Baton visits all 71 Commonwealth countries and territories on its journey from Buckingham Palace to the host city. In 2018 that is Gold Coast in Australia; one territory is missing from the relay, because it has not been possible to schedule St Helena this year. However several Saints saw and carried the baton in the Falkland Islands, so we have helped a little bit.

  Falklands' all health and social services sites Smoke Free as of February

  

  The Falkland Islands announced that all Health & Social Services sites are to be Smoke Free from 1st February 2018. Following on from the ban on smoking in any Government property, the Health & Social Services Department are going one step further by banning cigars, cigarettes and any vaping devices from all Health & Social Services sites, starting from the 1st February 2018.

  Falklands' Museum incorporates naval journal with accounts of Port Egmont 250 year ago

  

  Two hundred and fifty years on, the story of a bold Falklands naval adventure has been purchased for the local museum in Stanley. Friends of the Falkland Islands Museum and Jane Cameron National Archives (FIMA Friends) executive committee member Alexandra ‘Zaz’ Shackleton was browsing at the regular antiquarian travel book fair at the Royal Geographical Society in London, when she came across a volume that she immediately knew belonged in the Falklands.
