Britain's Conservative Party will not be bound by any constitutional agreement between the Government of Britain and Spain which does not have the full democratic consent of the people of Gibraltar, Shadow Foreign Secretary Michael Ancram told the Tory annual conference in Blackpool.
Britain reported last week to the UN Fourth Committee on Decolonisation that it would continue its policy of informal co-operation with the C24. The focus was on Caribbean territories and the UK delegate declared that independence would be encouraged if desired by territories that have that option.

Argentine Ambassador Federico Mirre takes up his new position as Argentine Ambassador in London next week. Mirre is a lawyer and a career diplomat. Previous foreign posts include The Vatican, Germany, France, Ivory Coast and Norway the last two where he served as Ambassador. He was born in Argentina in 1939, is married and has two daughters. He is currently director of the Western Europe Desk at the Argentine Foreign Affairs Ministry in Buenos Aires.

The authorities raised the alarm and called on Spain and Ghana to join their fight against poachers after spotting a vessel suspected of fishing illegally in Australian waters. The Ghanaian flagged fishing vessel had previously been registered in Spain.
British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has told Gibraltar Leader of the Opposition Joe Bossano that any future discussions with Spain are ad-referendum to the people of the Rock. Mr Straw said this in reply to a question from Mr Bossano at the Labour Party Conference in Bournemouth.
