    UK denies any surrender of Gibraltar sovereignty.

    The British Government has categorically denied a report that it is involved in a secret deal for sharing sovereignty of Gibraltar with Spain or gradually surrendering the territory to total Spanish control.
    If this were true, it could be seriously worrying for the Falklands Islands in combating Argentina's sovereignty claim. But the Foreign Office in London has assured Mercopress it is not true.

    Minister's tribute as Falklands Showcase opens.

    An enthusiastic tribute was paid to the Falkland Islands and its people by British law minister, Baroness Scotland, when she opened the new 90-thousand pound Falklands Government Office “Showcase” in London, which Falklands Representative, Miss Sukey Cameron, described as “a very exciting development, showing people what a dynamic place the modern Falklands is today”.

    Falklands “save the albatross” appeal.

    An urgent appeal has gone out from the Falkland Islands for an international campaign to halt the drastic decline in the world's biggest population of black-browed albatross caused by modern fishing methods. The environmental charity, Falklands Conservation, has issued a warning that the albatross is rapidly becoming a global “vulnerable” species.

    Falklands signs Environment Charter.

    In a new drive to protect and enhance the environment for future generations, the Falkland Islands and United Kingdom Governments have agreed to take action on several initiatives which should boost the activities of Falklands Conservation and also Ian Strange's long-standing conservation work on New Island as an “individual environmental champion”.
