  Falklands: Record Loligo catch, 53,578 tons, fifth year in a row

  

  Falkland Islands Director of Natural Resources Dr. Andrea Clausen reported there was another high catch of Loligo squid during this year’s first season, the fifth year in a row. Dr Andrea Clausen said in her report for the Fisheries Committee, meeting on June, that the total catch of Loligo had been 53,578 tons.

  Argentine jurist Frida Armas Pfirter has been appointed as a judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, where she will serve until 2032, it was reported in New York.

  Falklands leading fishing companies opened to review by HRAS

  

  The recent visit to the Falkland Islands by HRAS, (Human Rights at Sea), to conduct an independent review of fishing licensing, related enforcement, and improvements for onboard crew safety and welfare, saw three leading companies opened their doors to scrutiny. This included access to one of the licensed squid fishing vessels and its crew at sea.

  Operation Coldstare, air patrol in support of South Georgia's fisheries

  

  Last month the British Forces in South Atlantic Islands, BFSAI, stationed in Mount Pleasant Complex, MPC, were involved in the operation COLDSTARE as part of a routine maritime patrol in support of South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands' rich fisheries resources.

  Norwegian catches for UK Fish and chips, and the price now averages £9

  

  The soaring price of the UK staple fish and chips has become a national controversy from the moment a portion of the dish in Somerset can cost as much as £14, while the UK average is £9, according to the ONS, reports BBC.   Falklands preparing farewell to the last FPV Protegat replaced by FPV Lilibet

  

  The Falkland Islands Government is preparing a very fond farewell to FPV Protegat, her crew and all at Galfishing Ltd following the completion of their contract to provide the fishery patrol vessel for the Falkland Islands. Precisely this month the state of the art FPV Lilibet, after a long trip from Vietnam, where she was built, has taken over the patrolling tasks in the Islands EEZ.

  Chile keeps track of the Chinese jigger fleet crossing from the Atlantic to the Pacific

  

  The Chilean Navy and the country's National Fisheries Service, Sernapesca, reported that they are keeping track of the “devastating” Chinese fleet sailing from the Atlantic to the Pacific oceans and currently sailing north along the Chilean coast line, after ending its squid season.
