  New trawler-freezer to join Falkland’s squid fisheries in 2024

  

  Shipbuilders Nodosa from Marin in Galicia, Spain has formalized the construction of a new freezer trawler, for Orion Fishing Company Ltd., an association of Pereira SA from Vigo with the Falkland Islands Argos Group Ltd. The new trawler is scheduled to be delivered in 2024.

  Mar del Plata fishermen go on two-day strike over wage bargaining

  

  Fishermen of Mar del Plata's deep-sea Monday launched a 48-hour strike in demand of wage increases of up to 100% to cope with Argentina's inflation and after negotiations with the Business Chambers Caabpa and Caipa yielded no results.

  Brazilian fisheries export revenue increased 49% in nine months of 2022

  

  Brazilian fisheries exports experienced a 49% revenue increase during the first nine months of this year, compared to the same period in 2021. However, according to the Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) in the 3rd quarter, revenue actually dropped 17%.

  Falklands' largest Loligo catches since 1989, but world conditions have changed dramatically

  

  Falkland Islands have experienced an extraordinary Loligo year with catches reaching 101,073 tons in the two season, 54,417 in the first and 43,216 in the second. However great volumes also have their shortcomings, particularly since Falklands' fishing industry this year has had to face dearer fuel and transport costs, and not all the catch has been sold.

  Suggested improvements to the Argentine toothfish fisheries if an MSC certification is to be achieved

  

  Argentine scientists from INIDEP have presented a paper on toothfish biologic-catches in the Argentine dissostichus eleginoides fisheries, based on data collected from operations in 2021. The information for the paper originated in official Argentine stats data and that supplied by observers on longliners with ITQ for the species.

  Hake fishing halted for conservation purposes

  

  Authorities from Uruguay and Argentina have agreed to halt hake capture effective Oct. 1 on a temporary basis to preserve the species, it was announced.

  Fortuna announces the construction of a new trawler

  

  Over recent weeks, the Boards of Fortuna Ltd and our partners have approved the construction of a new trawler to replace the FV Capricorn in the Loligo fishery in early 2025. The vessel will be owned and operated by Fortuna Joint Venture Company - “Petrel Fishing Company Ltd”.

  Falklands' Fortuna Group establishes Taiwan subsidiary

  

  Falkland Islands' Fortuna Group has established a wholly owned company in Taiwan to manage its Illex business. Atlantic catch (Taiwan) will be a subsidiary of Atlantic Catch Falkland Islands both of which will be 100% Falklands owned.
