    Paraguay to require yellow fever vax when travel includes risk areas

    Acoustic survey finds twilight zone in Southern ocean an emporium of fish, BAS report

    The top image shows a lanternfish species commonly found in more northerly sectors of the Southern Ocean – Protomyctophum bolini – with the highly reflective gas swimbladder clearly visible.

    A new study highlights there could be up to four times more fish in the mesopelagic, or ‘twilight’, zone of the Southern Ocean than previously thought. Scientists at British Antarctic Survey and Bristol University discovered that by accounting for different acoustic properties of fish, the biomass, or total weight, of mesopelagic fish is likely to be 1.8 – 3.6 times higher than they previously calculated.

    Commonwealth and WHO agree to work on universal health care and resilient health systems

    The ceremony was held at the WHO Headquarters in Geneva by the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland QC, and the WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros.

    The Commonwealth Secretariat and the World Health Organization (WHO) signed on Monday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) committing to strengthening their collaboration on a broad range of public health issues of particular concern to Commonwealth member states and governments, such as the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccine equity, advancing universal health coverage, and building resilient health systems.
