  Uruguay, one the very few “full democracies” in the world, The Economist

  

  Uruguay leads as one of four full democracies in the Americas, according to the Democracy Index 2020, published by The Economist. Uruguay scored 8,61 points out of a possible 10 and ranked fifteenth at world level, while the other “full” democracies in the region are Costa Rica, 8,16; Chile, 8,28 and Canada with 9,24 points.

  Lufthansa lands in Falklands with scientists; returns to Germany on Wednesday

  

  Lufthansa’s longest flight ever has landed in the Falkland Islands. The aircraft departed Hamburg at 21:23 on Sunday, landing at Mount Pleasant Complex at 09:00. The flight, which is also the longest flight to have departed Hamburg, clocked in at 15 hours and 36 minutes.

  Ecuador president's plane makes emergency landing in Washington before meeting with IMF chief and Biden officials

  

  The aircraft carrying Ecuadoran President Lenin Moreno, the First Lady, and a delegation of top officials was forced to make an emergency landing on Saturday in Washington at the end of an official visit, the country's communications ministry announced.

  More than one million people have died from COVID-19 in North and South America, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) reported. Last week two million more cases were reported in the Americas, with the United States the main driver of the outbreak.

  Colombian defense minister and respected politician dies of Covid-19

  

  Colombia's defense minister has died in hospital after contracting coronavirus, the government announced. Carlos Holmes Trujillo, 69, was taken to hospital with Covid-19 earlier this month and had developed viral pneumonia.
