  Will Maduro attempt to take over Guyana's Esequibo? Brazil sends troops to the area

  

  Brazil announced “intensified defensive actions” along its northern border fearing a possible invasion of Guyana by the dictatorial regime of President Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela. This Friday the UN International Court is expected to halt a referendum, on a disputed area between the two neighbors, which is seen as “an exercise in forced annexation” by Venezuela.

  US grain exports threatened by insufficient draft along the Mississippi for barges

  

  As has happened with the mighty Paraná River in the heartland of South America, with the Amazon in northern South America, and even with the Panama Canal, all of them suffering lack of rainfall to keep basins flowing with sufficient water levels, now has come the turn of the Mississippi with insufficient draft for the vessels and barges involved in transporting US grains.

  Bolivia's full Mercosur membership greenlighted

  

  Brazil's Senate Tuesday greenlighted Bolivia's accession to the South American Common Market (Mercosur) as a full member of the bloc. Once President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva enacts the bill, the regional alliance will once again consist of five full members -in addition to Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay- as it once happened when Venezuela was admitted but later suspended in 2017 for its undemocratic practices.

  NGO warns Essequibo question might end up in war between Venezuela and Guyana

  

  Control Ciudadano (Social Watch - CC) Chairwoman Rocío San Miguel said Guyanese President Irfaan Alí's recent statements regarding the military support of several countries to defend the Essequibo amounted to a “very strong warning for Venezuela,” which will hold a referendum on the matter on Dec. 3.

  Brazilian Football Confederation to take action against hate speech

  

  Following this week's loss to Argentina at the Maracana Stadium in a World Cup qualifying match, Brazilian players of African ethnicity were called “monkeys” on the social network Instagram while Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) President Ednaldo Rodrigues was dubbed an “Indian” due to his native lineage. In this scenario, the CBF announced Friday it would take legal action.

  Ecuador's new president sworn in

  

  Daniel Noboa, aged 35, was sworn in Thursday as Ecuador's new president during a ceremony at Quito's Legislative Palace. He will be at the helm of this country for 18 months to complete the term of office left unfinished by Guillermo Lasso, who activated the so-called “crossed-death” mechanism to avoid impeachment and called for snap elections.
