    A Brazilian Air Force (FAB) aircraft landed at the São Paulo Air Base in Guarulhos at 10.25 am on Sunday carrying 229 Brazilian nationals who had been evacuated from war-torn Lebanon, in addition to 3 pets, Agencia Brasil reported.

    Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva insisted this weekend that “fake news” had been widely used as a campaign tool ahead of Sunday's municipal elections nationwide. “We are seeing a great amount of 'fake news', a great number of lies, of provocations,” Lula stressed. “Now there are candidacies that have no commitment other than to provoke, to tell lies,” he also pointed out when casting his vote in Sao Bernardo do Campo, in Greater Sao Paulo, where he developed his trade union and political career since the 1970s.

    Eduardo Paes has been reelected for a fourth time as mayor of Rio de Janeiro in what was regarded as a major electoral blow from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to his predecessor Jair Bolsonaro. With 93.66% of the votes counted, the 54-year-old Paes had collected 60.26% support. The Social Democratic Party (PSD) candidate was mayor of Rio during back-to-back terms (2009-2017) and returned in 2020. Paes dedicated his victory to President Lula and Rio de Janeiro State Governor Cláudio Castro. “As of today, conflicts are over,” he said.

In case of a runoff, Orsi is expected to garner 50% of the vote, the study found between September 27 and 30 from a sample of 500 people.

But this time around the change might become permanent, as President Santiago Peña said Friday he had no problem signing into law the newly passed bill by Congress for the so-called daylight saving time to become effective. “We do not find any reason not to do so,” the head of state pointed out.
