    “If you have to deny the existence of a people to make your argument work, your argument doesn’t work,” has been the public reply of Falkland Islands lawmaker MLA Teslyn Barkman to the piece of Argentina's foreign minister Diana Mondino addressed to Falkland Islanders, during this week's session of the Special Decolonization Committee, or C24, held at the United Nations, New York.

    Russian President Vladimir Putin landed in Hanoi Wednesday after signing the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement” with North Korea which reshaped the world's military preparedness after Moscow pledged to defend Pyongyang in case of attack by a foreign power. In Vietnam, the Russian president was to hold meetings with local leaders further to strengthen his country's allegiances in the region.

    Falklands tells Decolonization Committee C24, “Our voice is all that matters”

    The Falklands people are not the UK officials that have administered the Islands. However, Argentina don’t accept this, and requested again to be our colonial masters at the UN C24-decolonisation committee. MLA Short and I attended the UN meeting of the “question of the Falklands” on Tuesday 18th June to point to the obvious - Our voice is all that matters.

    My family had been Falkland Islanders for over 100 years before Argentina first made their claim to the UN.

    A group of elected assembly members from the Falkland Islands presented an address to the United Nations Special Committee on the situation regarding the implementation of the declaration on the granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples.

    The three-time former governor of the Argentine province of Tucumán José Alperovich was sentenced to 16 years in prison Tuesday for sexually abusing his niece, who worked as his secretary during his term as a national senator. It took Judge Juan Ramos Padilla 15 hearings and testimony from almost 70 witnesses and experts to hand down his verdict and decision which also included the defendant's disenfranchisement.

    Rio Grande do Sul's death toll updated to 177

    According to an updated report on the floods in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul released Tuesday, 177 people had perished while 37 others were still unaccounted for. Agencia Brasil also said some 10,000 people were still in shelters as Civil Defense authorities issued a new heavy rain alert after at least 19 municipalities were damaged by new floods this past weekend.

    Pettovello denting Milei's approval ratings

    A study by the consulting firm Zuban Córdoba showed that Argentine President Javier Milei's approval ratings were falling below those of other officials of his administration such as Security Minister Patricia Bullrich and Vice President Victoria Villarruel. These results were said to be driven by scandals involving the President's protegé, Human Capital Minister Sandra Pettovello.
