Falklands pause Loligo squid fishing for two weeks over low biomass

The Falkland Islands Fisheries Department announced on Wednesday that fishing within the Loligo Box will be paused for around two weeks as a precautionary measure, following low Loligo squid biomass in the area.

YPF divests its stake in gas distribution for 780 million dollars

Argentine oil company YPF, 51% state-controlled, has accepted Edenor's offer to buy its stake in Metrogas and Metroenergía for 780 million dollars, according to a filing submitted on Monday to the securities regulator. The deal takes the company out of the natural gas distribution business.

US disables a Panama-flagged container ship off the coast of Pakistan

US forces struck the Panama-flagged container ship Vela Nova in the Gulf of Oman on Tuesday, leaving it unable to steer, after it attempted to head for an Iranian port in violation of the naval blockade imposed by Washington, US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed.

Syrian court sentences Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia for crimes against humanity

A criminal court in Damascus sentenced former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia on Tuesday for premeditated murder, torture, arbitrary detention and crimes against humanity. Assad was ousted in December 2024 and is living in exile in Moscow. It is the first public sentence handed down against the man who governed Syria for more than two decades.
