  Chile's armed forces 100 percent voluntary for first time in history

  

  Chile's Armed Forces announced Tuesday that the 16,050 new recruits for 2007 were all volunteers. Citing the new recruitment law which provided funding for marketing and better benefits for solders, over 40,000 applications were received for the available spots.

  Today, Wednesday 4th April, Mario Oscar Nuñez, late of the 12th Argentine Infantry Regiment and Gary Clement, late of 45 Commando, Royal Marines, set off from Stanley, the capital of the Falkland Islands, known to the Argentineans as Las Islas Malvinas, on a journey, which would take them approximately one hundred kilometres and twenty-five years back in time.

  Almost 40% of former Malvinas war combatants have attempted committing suicide according to a report and survey among veterans complied by Argentina's health services experts and released in coincidence with the 25th anniversary of the beginning of the South Atlantic conflict.

  Lady Thatcher marks anniversary at St Paul's Cathedral

  Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher marked the 25th anniversary of the Falkland Islands War at a small, private ceremony in St. Paul's Cathedral Monday evening.
