    The United States imposing a 25% tariff on countries importing oil and gas from Venezuela starting next month has already taken its toll on Caracas' coffers as India and China —accounting for over 50% of its crude exports— have halted purchases. China, which imported 351,000 barrels per day (bpd) last year, and India, with 254,000 bpd in January, are stepping back, with companies like India’s Reliance Industries planning to stop imports.

    Seven Chilean fishermen arrested in clash with carabineros

    Seven people were arrested, and several law enforcement officers were injured Wednesday as artisanal fishermen in the Chilean region of Maule clashed with carabineros during a protest on Route 5 South near San Javier. The demonstrators blocked the highway to protest against the so-called Fracking Law bill, which was to be voted on in the Senate. All eight injured officers were reported to be out of immediate danger.

    The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has issued an urgent call to address the primary factors contributing to non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which claim approximately 6 million lives annually in the Americas. At the Regional Meeting on Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases held in Brasilia, PAHO Director Dr. Jarbas Barbosa highlighted that over 240 million people in the region live with NCDs, such as hypertension, diabetes, and cancer, requiring continuous treatment. However, many lack adequate care due to poor management and control.

    Presidents Emmanuel Macron of France and Argentina's Javier Milei held a telephone conversation Tuesday, during which the European leader conveyed his strong support to the Libertarian administration's negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). “The Argentine people can always count on France,” Macron stressed. His country has a 4.03% voting power on the IMF executive board, ranking fifth globally. Milei and Economy Minister Luis Toto Caputo thanked Macron on social media for his message while the IMF was discussing Argentina's case at it Washington DC headquarters.
