    Although there is no confirmation yet from football's governing body FIFA, there were clues Wednesday morning that the 2030 finals might be played under a format never seen before in the competition's history that will be celebrating 100 years then.

    Joint bid to host 2030 football World Cup launched

    It would be the first time that as many as four countries host the World Cup.

    Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, and Chile have announced a joint bid to co-host the 2030 football World Cup finals under the motto “Together 2030.” The intended 2030 tournament will feature 48 teams and some 80 matches will be played in 14 stadiums. The last World Cup to be held in South America was ”Brazil 2014

    FIFA officials said it decided to appoint a ”normalization committee'' that will run the AUF until Feb. 28, 2019

    Several Uruguayan international players used their social media channels to share a letter in support to FIFA's decision to take temporary control of the country's soccer federation because of governance concerns. The letter, tweeted out by team stars such as Luis Suarez and Diego Godin, says it would bring “transparency, democracy and plurality” to the federation, known as the AUF.
