    Brazil approves the sale of cannabis-based products for medical use

    President Jair Bolsonaro has previously expressed support for medical cannabis, but warned he would “not permit loopholes in the law”

    Brazil's health watchdog on Tuesday approved the sale of cannabis-based products for medical use in pharmacies to people with a prescription. The regulation, which takes effect in the coming months, also allows for the manufacture of such products in a laboratory, the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa) said in a statement.

    Brazil says glyphosate is non-cancerous, but health risks remain for those exposed to the weed-killer

    Anvisa proposed maximum daily ingestion limits of 0.5 milligrams per kilo of body weight for the general population and 0.1 milligrams for rural workers

    Analysts at Brazilian health agency Anvisa have determined that the weed-killer glyphosate does not cause cancer while recommending exposure limits as international pressure to reduce use of the chemical grows. Companies such as Bayer AG and its unit Monsanto, which produces glyphosate-based weed-killers, have faced legal challenges over allegations that glyphosate causes cancer. A new study published this month also links high exposure to cancer.
