    UK private helicopter company begins Falklands' around the clock air operations

    Two new AW-189 helicopters customized by Finmeccanica were sourced to meet the requirements set out by the UK Ministry of Defense for S&R operations

    British International Helicopters (BIH) has begun flight operations in the Falkland Islands, working alongside Britain’s military forces in the region to provide a range of vital air support services. Following the award of a ten-year, £180 million contract last year, Britain’s largest UK-owned helicopter operator will undertake a range of assignments including around the clock, all-weather search and rescue, helicopter emergency services, rescue hoist operations, and passenger and cargo transfers.

    Falklands bid farewell to Sea King Helicopters

    The local community came to meet and greet the new AAR SAR Helicopters and crew who will replace the RAF Sea King Helicopters.

    The Falkland Islands community bid farewell to two Search & Rescue (SAR) helicopters today after over three decades of service. Both the two RAF Sea King helicopters were brought to the capital Stanley today for the local community to say goodbye, as well as meet the crew who man the aircraft. The new AAR helicopter, which will replace the existing RAF SAR service, was also present at the farewell today.

    United States helicopter operator, AAR Airlift and partner British International Helicopters (BIH) have grabbed a £180 million ($275 million) helicopter deal to support U.K. defense ministry operations in the Falkland Islands.
