Today, the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands extends warm greetings to the Government and people of Chile as they celebrate their Independence Day.
The Governor of the Falkland Islands, Colin Martin Reynolds, is looking forward to hosting an event to celebrate Chilean Independence Day on the evening of Thursday, 18th September. Current government House constraints mean numbers will be limited to 100 guests
The Falkland Islands have decades of close links with Chile which not only refer to trade, connectivity, shipping, but are mainly because of the long-established Chilean community in the Islands. Currently almost two hundred strong they are the largest from mainland South America and have greatly contributed to the development of the Islands in different fields of expertise, both in Camp and Stanley. And many families in the Islands have Chilean born members or descendants.
The Falkland Islands celebrated Chilean Independence with a special reception for the local Chilean community in Government House.
Chilean Independence Day celebrations were again held in the Falkland Islands this year, with the main event being hosted at Government House in Stanley, demonstrating the strong relationship that has formed between Chile and the Falklands in recent decades.
