Citing sources in the eastern city of Qingdao, China's news service Xinhua reported Monday that 20 kilograms of corn seeds were shipped to Argentina in late January after being quarantined by the Asian country's customs. These seeds are known as the “chips of agriculture,” it was also explained as Chinese authorities deemed this export as a milestone.
Argentina is expected to harvest some 140 million tons of grain in the 2018/2019 season, the largest crop in the country's history, according to Argentina's Agriculture Secretariat.
US agricultural giant Monsanto Tuesday posted a large increase in quarterly earnings on strong results in corn seed sales in the US and Latin America and better sales of pesticides. The St Louis-based corporation said net income for the first quarter was 339 million dollars, up from 126 million a year earlier.
