A paper relating to further work on options for the proposed new port facility for the Falkland Islands was presented to the latest Executive Council Meeting by the Falkland Islands Government Projects Director.
The location of a new deep water port for the Falkland Islands been narrowed down to three potential sites: Mare Harbour, Navy Point (north of the Camber) and Stanley harbour (FIPASS) it was confirmed at the Executive Council meeting last week following a discussion of the issue.
After a year without any obvious movement on the idea of a new deep sea port for the Falkland Islands it seems that the idea is alive and well and being pursued, quietly in the background. The estimates for such a project vary up to £ 50, £ 60 million.
Physical integration particularly in energy and access to the sea were two of the main issues addressed by the presidents of Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia, (Fernando Lugo, Jose Mujica and Evo Morales), during their Sunday meeting in Asunción in the framework of Urupabol, the regional group which brings together the three countries.
