  No injuries or damages reported as strong quake hits Strait of Magellan region

  

  A 7.4-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale struck the Drake Passage Friday, triggering a tsunami warning for Chile's Magallanes region and Antarctic Territory. Chile and neighboring Argentina carried out preventive evacuations, relocating thousands from coastal areas. Shortly after, a stronger 7.5-magnitude quake hit Puerto Williams, followed by a 6.1 aftershock in the Strait of Magellan.   Falklands provides sea and air support for the search of missing Chilean aircraft

  

  Falkland Islands based PHAROS SG, on regular deployment as a South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands fishery patrol vessel, returned on Tuesday morning to Stanley Harbour, after assisting in the search for wreckage and debris from the Chilean C130 aircraft that went missing on Monday 09 December.

  Finding survivors from doomed Chilean Hercules unlikely but trips will continue

  

  Chilean Air Force (FACh) Chief-of-Staff General Arturo Merino Núñez Thursday ruled out the possibility of finding any survivors from Monday's Hercules C-130 transport aircraft which crashed into the Drake Passage enroute to Antarctica with 38 people onboard after human parts from the wreckage were found later in the week.

  Expansion of fly-cruise luxury programs to Antarctica

  

  Silversea is to charter two private jets for a new fly-cruise program to Antarctica in 2021. The 75-seater aircraft will fly from Punta Arenas, Chile, to King George Island in Antarctica as part of the new Antarctica Bridge program which goes on sale on December 10 this year.

  Three seismic tremors in the Drake Passage felt in Tierra del Fuego

  

  Three seismic tremors were felt in Ushuaia, extreme south of Argentina, on Monday, with epicenter in the Drake Passage, according to Argentina and Chile seismology services. The incidents had no major impact in the capital of the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego or in nearby Puerto Williams in Chile.
