Drones banned in Venezuela

Venezuela's Bolivarian regime announced Tuesday a nationwide suspension and prohibition of all activities related to drones and other remotely piloted aircraft. Published in Official Gazette No. 6,927, the measure bans the purchase, sale, manufacture, import, distribution, training, registration, and flight operations of these devices for one year, effective Aug. 18, 2025.

HMS Protector equipped with drones for polar extreme missions

Royal Navy’s Ice Patrol Ship HMS Protector has been assigned two small rotary-wing drones, specially adapted for her unique mission in the polar extremes. Although the Devonport-based survey ship has a large flight deck, with no hangar she cannot take helicopters with her – unlike her predecessor HMS Endurance, which carried two Lynx.

Antarctica tour operates announces new restrictions on commercial drone use by visitors

The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators has announced robust new restrictions on commercial drone use in Antarctica. The constraints, voted in at IAATO’s annual meeting in Cape Town, South Africa (April 30 – May 3), mean those using Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) for commercial purposes on IAATO vessels will have new restrictions limiting piloting opportunities.

Barking drones in New Zealand to help herd sheep: much cheaper than Border Collies

Farmers in New Zealand have found a new way to herd their sheep. They are now herding sheep with a drone, the DJ1 Mavic 2 Enterprise, outfitted with a speaker that barks like a dog. The farmers say that a single drone can do the work of multiple dogs. Check out the video below for the drone in action and some of the other sounds effects the farmers use.

Gatwick Airport admits insufficient technology to prevent future drone disruptions

The boss of London's Gatwick Airport has refused to rule out the possibility of future drone disruption once the military leave. Gatwick chief operating officer Chris Woodroofe said there is currently no commercially available equipment he could put in place to neutralize the threat.
