    Punta Arenas moves into alternative energy and plans wind farm to supply 6.000 homes

    With the first stage of the Cabo Negro wind farm, the 2% alternative energy contribution can be expected to increase to 18% of local consumption

    Magallanes Region in the extreme south of Chile is taking advantage of its weather conditions and will convert its wind gusts into energy. With some six million dollars from the National Fund for Regional Development and in coordination with Chilean government owned oil company Enap, a wind farm will be installed in Cabo Negro during the second half of the year.

    Brazil moving to clean-energy: 51 wind farms planned with 1.450 MW

    Brazil is seeking to increase installed clean-energy capacity by 19 gigawatts by 2026 to diversify the local grid.

    Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA is in final negotiations to supply about 700 megawatts of wind turbines for power plants in Brazil. The deal are to supply equipment for projects that Voltalia SA, EDP Renovaveis SA, Enel Green Power SpA, and Neoenergia SA are developing in northeast Brazil. The orders are all for wind farms that won government-organized power auctions in December.

    Gibraltar to experiment with a wave-power alternative energy project

    The system works with uniquely shaped buoys to capture and convert wave energy into low cost clean electricity

    The Government of Gibraltar has signed its first power purchase agreement for the provision of renewable energy. The agreement, which is with Eco Wave Power, is for the provision of an initial 0.5MW energy device on the eastside of the Rock.

    An Argentine multinational company dedicated to providing solutions in the field of alternative energy sources will open a Wind Farm Service Centre in Uruguay. IMPSA is considered a leader in wind power investment and generation in Latinamerica.
