    Falkland Islands Government appoints new Head of Finance

    MLA Spink, portfolio lead for Government Services, said it is positive to welcome Debbie Ferriby, a Falkland Islander, as a senior appointment to the Treasury

    The Falkland Islands Government announced the appointment of Debbie Ferriby as Head of Finance. Debbie is an experienced and qualified accountant, and is currently the Chief Finance Officer at Sure South Atlantic, based in Stanley.

    Second humanitarian visit to Falklands confirmed by Buenos Aires and UK ambassador

    The Argentine government is scheduled to begin talks with Malvinas families to organize a trip similar to the historic visit in March 2017

    The Argentine government has confirmed that in coming days it will be meeting with Malvinas families and UK authorities to organize another humanitarian trip to the Falkland Islands so that the next of kin of the 18 recently identified Argentine soldiers can visit, honor and pray at their graves in the Argentine military cemetery near Darwin.

    Vessels leaving Vigo for the Falklands' Loligo season; Argentina reports good catches of Illex

    An estimated forty jiggers are currently operating in the Argentine EEZ area, and another 20 are expected to join them in coming days

    While the Spanish fleet of fishing vessels, many of them partners of Falkland Islands companies have started leaving Vigo for the South Atlantic to begin the Loligo season on 24 February, Argentine licensed jiggers operating south of parallel 44 have been catching some 25 tons per day per vessel of Illex, according to the first reports from Pescare.com.ar.

    Falklands supports a visit next March of the families from the 18 newly identified Argentine soldiers

    MLA Barry Elsby said Falklands continues to ensure its commitment to the Geneva Convention which requires that persons lost in combat are identified where possible

    The Falkland Islands government said in a release that if the families of the 18 newly identified Argentine soldiers might wish to visit the Falklands in March, “we would support this”, as part of the humanitarian obligations, in much the same way the Islands facilitated the DNA process.

    An Argentine yacht with a crew of five, one of them a survivor of the sinking of ARA General Belgrano during the Falklands conflict have left Bahia Blanca for Ushuaia and then on to the End of the World Lighthouse at the Isla de los Estados, where they plan to open a library under the name of “Malvinas Heroes”.

    Falklands in The New York Times list of Places to Visit

    Falkland Islands strengthens its air service with new aircraft and avionics

    One of the Britten Islanders which are responsible for Falklands' passenger, tourist and light freight around the Islands

    The Falkland Islands government air service, FIGAS, has incorporated on lease a Britten-Norman Islander aircraft for the inter-islands air service during the current summer season. Likewise another new aircraft has been ordered, scheduled to be delivered next July, as well as four new engines for the FIGAS fleet of Briten-Norman Islanders.

    Premier record oil production helps significant cuts in its debts

    Premier has assets in the North Sea, Asia, off the Falkland Islands and Mexico. It built heavy debts before the oil price downturn in 2014

    Premier Oil has taken advantage of its second consecutive year of record oil production to make larger than expected cuts into its still-significant debts. The London-listed oil and gas developer, with interests in the Falkland Islands, expects its financial results to reveal end-of-year debts of US$2.3 billion, after removing US$390 million from the total following a sharp rise in oil output.
