Falklands' government operating surplus stands at £9.4 million

The Falkland Islands Government Standing Finance Committee heard on Wednesday that the forecast operating surplus for the whole of the year now stands at £9.4 million. Expenditure is expected to ramp up over the remainder of the financial year, with plenty of infrastructure work being scheduled for the summer months.

Falklands goes ahead with negotiations and contract for second commercial flight

The Executive Council has today Wednesday authorised the Chief Executive of the Falkland Islands Government to complete the necessary negotiations with LATAM Airlines Brazil and to finalise a contract, subject to agreement with MLAs, to establish and operate a new weekly route between Sao Paulo and the Falkland Islands.

Red Cross underlines the significance of the remains' identification process in the Falklands

The head of the International Red Cross humanitarian project, Morris Tidball-Binz, who led the identification process of Argentine combatants fallen in the 1982 South Atlantic conflict and buried in the Falkland Islands, said that the fact the dead can rest in peace, “is a fundamental step to build confidence among nations”, such is the case of Argentina and the United Kingdom.

Battle Day 2018 in London

The annual Falklands memorial service at the Cenotaph took place on the 8th December in brilliant sunshine. On this day in 1914, the naval Battle of the Falkland Islands took place and the ceremony is a commemoration of those who gave their lives then. It also honours those who fell liberating the Islands from Argentine occupation in 1982.

Argentina announces identification on 106th combatant buried in Falklands

Remains of the 106th Argentine combatant buried in the Falkland Islands has been fully identified, announced on Thursday Argentina's Human Rights Secretary Claudio Avruj. The Argentine official said the name of the newly identified soldier will be released on Friday on request of the family who wished a day of intimacy, after 36 years of waiting news from their loved one.
