Extreme low temperatures in the Falkland Islands have given a chance for hockey players and fans to practice on frozen ponds, which is the good side of the climate situation, but the Public Works Department Water Section has also advised the public about water usage which “at this time is fairly high”.
The Hockey Winter Cup Classic in Punta Arenas is over with great success for the Falkland Islands Hockey Association and its several participating teams of Under 12, Under 16, Ladies and Adults.
On Saturday and following five days of intense competition the ice hockey Endemic Celebration Cup 2022, came to an end with an extraordinary triumph for the Falkland Islands Under 12 team, Stanley Penguins, who won gold in their category. In the final game, they beat the Vikings from Rio Grande, Tierra del Fuego 7-0.
The Falkland Islands will be participating in the LATAM hockey Cup, to be played in Miami, on September 6/7, with semifinals and finals on the following two days. This year the Falkland Islands teams competed in two international ice hockey tournaments. Firstly two of our player/coaches took part in The Patagonian Brotherhood Cup held in Puerto Williams. They competed as part of the rest of the world team with players from other countries eventually taking 3rd place.
