Gibraltar's Chief Minister Fabian Picardo sent a firm message on Saturday, 10 September, the Rock's National Day, which was accompanied by strong support messages from the UK and a visiting delegation of MPs from all parties in Westminster
Europe Minister David Lidington repeated the UK’s commitment to the people of Gibraltar in a speech to a packed Gibraltar Day reception in the Guildhall in London. Lidington spoke of the close ties that continued to bind the City of London and the UK to Gibraltar.
Chief Minister Fabian Picardo is in the UK to attend Gibraltar Day in London and various other events this week. CM Picardo is accompanied by several other Gibraltar Government ministers who will also participate in the scheduled events, including Finance Minister Albert Isola, Education and Justice Minister Gilbert Licudi and Neil Costa, the Minister for Tourism, Public Transport, Commercial Affairs and the Port.
Representatives from British Overseas Territories including Falkland Islands lawmaker Ian Hansen as well as a cross-party delegation of British MPs were welcomed on Sunday by Gibraltar Chief Minister Fabian Picardo.
A large group of UK peers, Members of Parliament and Members of the European Parliament will attend Gibraltar’s National Day, next week, has been released. On Thursday a long list of representatives from other Overseas Territories including MLA Ian Hansen from the Falkland Islands was announced.
Falkland Islands lawmaker Ian Hansen together with political leaders of another seven UK Overseas Territories will be in Gibraltar to celebrate National Day next week, 10 September.
The Gibraltar Government strongly condemned the lengthy and deliberate delays to cross the frontier into Spain which have been experienced by Gibraltarians and visitors to Gibraltar. Chief Minister Fabian Picardo, currently in London has already been in touch with the UK Government and urged them to take up the matter with Spain at the highest level
