    Venezuela's Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza has demanded that Guyana respect its sovereignty after two ships of the transnational company ExxonMobil were repelled Saturday from what the Bolivarian Navy deemed to be their country's waters. But both the governments of the United States and of Guyana claim it was Venezuela who was in breach of international law.

     “The Longtail discovery is in close proximity to the Turbot discovery southeast of the Liza field,” Steve Greenlee, ExxonMobil Exploration Company president said

    ExxonMobil made its eighth oil discovery offshore Guyana at the Longtail-1 well in the Stabroek Block on June 20. The company encountered 256 feet of oil-bearing sandstone. The well was drilled to 18,057 feet depth in 6,365 feet of water.

    Guyana on the global energy map: oil production expected to reach 600.000bpd

     “ExxonMobil's discovery of the Liza field in 2015 truly put Guyana on the global energy map,” said Espen Erlingsen, head of upstream research at Rystad Energy.

    The Norwegian oil and gas research firm Rystad Energy is predicting that Guyana's oil sector could generate annual revenue of US$15 billion and that the government would pocket most of the profit generated from the explorations.

    US to process immigration of Cubans at Guyana embassy

    The United States will shift the processing of immigration visas for Cuban nationals from Colombia to Guyana starting April 1, the State Department announced.     Venezuela rejects UN decision to take Guyana border controversy to The Hague

    The administration of President Nicolas Maduro says it prefers another shot at the UN Secretary General Good Offices’ Process.

    Venezuela has rejected the decision made by the United Nations to refer the border controversy with Guyana to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). “The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, faithful to its historical tradition and in accordance with the Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace, reiterates its firm disposition to defend the territorial integrity of our Homeland and maintain political negotiation based on the 1966 Geneva Accord, as the only way to reach a peaceful solution, practical and satisfactory for both parties and in favor of our Peoples,” the Venezuelan government said in a statement on Wednesday.

    Guyana/Venezuela border controversy referred to the International Court of Justice

    Secretary-General Guterres stated that he has chosen the International Court of Justice as the means to be used for the solution of the controversy.

    United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres has referred the Guyana/Venezuela border controversy to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). In a statement which was published on the UN’s website on Tuesday, Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for the Secretary-General stated that Mr Guterres has fulfilled the responsibility that has fallen to him within the framework set by his predecessor in December 2016, and has chosen the International Court of Justice as the means to be used for the solution of the controversy.

    Sixth major oil find offshore Guyana at the Stabroek block

    The well was spud on 5 November 2017 by the Stena Caron drillship and drilled to 6450m depth in 2735m of water.

    For the sixth time Exxon and partners at the Stabroek block offshore Guyana are celebrating another major find in northern South American waters. In effect, Ranger-1 exploration well, the sixth find since discovering Liza in 2015, hit approximately 70m of high-quality, oil-bearing carbonate reservoirs some 60mi northwest of the Liza development.
