  Cuba plans to release 3.522 prisoners ahead of Pope's visit this month

  

  State-run newspaper “Granma” reported that Cuba would release 3,522 prisoners three days ahead of the September 19-22 visit by Pope Francis. However Cuban officials, who officially deny that the country has political prisoners, said they would not release inmates convict of crimes against state security.

  Argentina's AMIA 1994 terrorist attack trial will be held next 6 August

  

  Argentina's Memoria Activa, one of the most active groups that gather together relatives of the victims of the 1994 attack on the AMIA Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires, celebrated the decision to hold a trial (6 August) for the cover-up of the bombing this year, which was announced on Friday after weeks of heated controversy between the Executive, the Supreme Court and the tribunal in charge of judging the case.

  OAS to the rescue of Obama calls on country members to accept Guantanamo detainees

  

  The Organization of American States, OAS, Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza “urged the United States to close the Guantanamo Bay facility without delay and arrange for the trial or release of the detainees” and called on member countries to consider receiving detainees in Guantanamo.
