Despite an overwhelming support for Argentina’s sovereignty claim over the Falkland Islands during the recent OAS annual assembly at Antigua and Barbuda, the UK Minister for Latin America and Caribbean, Baroness Chapman, pointed to the importance of relationships with friends and allies across the Americas, and is particular with Argentina.
The UK and Chile signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in Gender Equality earlier this month. The MoU, with the aim of establishing sustained mutual cooperation in promoting human rights and gender equality, was signed by the Minister for Latin America, Baroness Chapman, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gloria de la Fuente, during her visit to London.
“Only the Falkland Islanders can and should decide their own future. Our position regarding the Falkland Islands is steadfast, and our commitment to defending the Falkland Islanders right to self-determination will not waiver.”
