On a visit to Dublin, Mr Juncker said fellow EU member states would not let Ireland be “isolated” on the impasse, insisting the demand for a resolution was a Europe-wide demand.

Jean-Claude Juncker said he could see “no more important use” of the European budget than maintaining the peace process in Ireland. He was speaking at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
