The Falkland Islands Government has celebrated a successful season attending major UK party conferences, including the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham, and, for the first time, the Liberal Democrat Conference in Brighton.

The Liberal-Dem Party new MP for Surrey Heath, Dr Al Pinkerton, was, until his election on July an Associate Professor of Geopolitics specializing in international borders and boundary disputes. Next Sunday, at Conference, he’ll be chairing a fringe meeting about the Falkland Islands at 11:30 am in the Regent Room at the Grand Hotel.
A delegation from the Falkland Islands Government will be attending the Labour and Conservative Party Conferences this year, while it will also be holding the first ever fringe meeting at the Liberal Democrat Conference in Brighton with a conference titled, “Falkland Islands: Self determination in the 21st century”.
The Falkland Islands Government attended both the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester (1st to 4th October) and the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool (8th to 11th October) and met with a number of senior politicians from both parties, including Cabinet and Shadow Cabinet Ministers, to discuss issues of importance to the Islands, alongside welcoming MPs, Councillors and Party Members to the Falkland Islands stand.
The Falkland Islands Government is attending and exhibiting at both the Conservative and Labour Party conferences, to represent Falkland Islanders’ views and to thank delegates for their continued support. This includes both Gov-ernment and Opposition politicians, along with the wider general public.
The Falkland Islands are making the round of British political parties conferences, and in a big way. It has been the Islands’ policy to attend these conferences to put their views across and to keep in touch with the political system and UK public opinion, their most effective support to ensure Falklands' self determination.
Falkland Islands Members of Legislative Assembly will be present at the annual party conferences in United Kingdom. MLA Sharon Halford and MLA Roger Edwards left for the UK on Tuesday and will be joined for their task by the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) London Representative Sukey Cameron MBE.
