    Venezuela shuts down embassy in Oslo just days after Machado's Nobel Prize

    Maduro never admitted the measure was linked to Machado's winning the Nobel Peace Prize

    Venezuelan ruler Nicolás Maduro announced on Monday that the Bolivarian regime was shutting down its embassies in Norway and Australia as part of a diplomatic restructuring program. The Chavista Government denied that the measure was linked to Norway's granting of the Nobel Peace Prize to opposition leader María Corina Machado three days prior.

    Norway purchases five Type 26 frigates, the UK largest warship export (US$ 13.5bn)

    With more than 30 ships in the class (8 for the RN, 6 for Australia, up to 15 for Canada and 5 for Norway), Type 26 has become the most successful British frigate design since the Leander class.

    Norway has formally announced it will purchase at least 5 Type 26 frigates to be built in the UK, an operation costing some 13,5 bn dollars. The announcement confirms what has been obvious for some time, but it is only the first step in this momentous program. The Norwegian and British governments will soon finalize a binding agreement which will set the framework for a strategic partnership. Once this agreement is signed, the two parties will enter into detailed contract negotiations with BAE Systems for the delivery schedule. The RN and UK government have worked hard to support this with an extensive program of visits by ministers, multiple visits to Norway by RN ships and deepening defense cooperation in the last few years.

    Norway awards offshore oil and gas exploration licenses in the Arctic region

    Energy Minister Terje Aasland said that, “If we are to uphold a stable production in the years to come, we must explore more and invest more.”

    This week Norway awarded 53 offshore oil and gas exploration licenses to 20 companies in its latest annual licensing round. Norway has increased offshore oil and gas exploration over the past couple of years as it looks to meet Europe’s surging demand after the continent ditched Russian energy.

    Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez Wednesday announced that his country would be recognizing Palestine's statehood as of May 28. In addition to Spain, Norway and the Republic of Ireland will be adopting the same stance. It was the Socialist leader's second bold diplomatic move this week after pulling Madrid's Ambassador María Jesús Alonso Jiménez from Buenos Aires. Of the 193 United Nations member states, 143 have recognized an independent state of Palestine, including China and Russia.

    Argentina: Deal to buy Norwegian P-3s moves forward

    Orkney Islands councilor feels Scotland has failed them dreadfully and suggests joining Norway

A motion will go before the council next week to investigate “alternative forms of governance”. Council leader James Stockan said Orkney does not get fair funding with its current relationship with the UK.

    The soaring price of the UK staple fish and chips has become a national controversy from the moment a portion of the dish in Somerset can cost as much as £14, while the UK average is £9, according to the ONS, reports BBC. But, the 19% increase has nothing to do with profiteering, the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) says.
