  Falklands lawmaker meets Red Cross chief to discuss identification of Argentine soldiers remains

  

  The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer, met on Monday with representatives of the authorities of the United Kingdom and of the Falkland Islands to discuss a process seeking to identify the remains of a number of unidentified Argentine soldiers buried at Darwin cemetery in Falklands/Malvinas Islands.

  “If any identification is to take place of combatants buried in the Falkland Islands, it would have to be done with the full agreement and involvement of the Falkland Islands Government”, said the local government in a Monday release from Stanley.

  Falklands: Argentina waiting for a reply to its project to identify remains buried at Darwin

  

  Argentina is concerned that there has been no reply from the UK regarding its initiative and request to identify the remains of the Argentine combatants buried at the Darwin cemetery, or Argentine memorial, in the Falkland Islands, according to a release from the Argentine foreign ministry.

  Falklands: Timerman says Red Cross will help with identification of remains at Darwin cemetery

  

  Foreign minister Hector Timerman said that the International Committee of the Red Cross will help with the identification of Argentine soldiers killed during the Falklands/Malvinas war and whose remains are still in the territory claimed by Argentina. The UK would be informed at a later stage on the matter.

  Red Cross to again address London over the Falklands Argentine unnamed graves

  

  The International Red Cross pledged it will again contact British authorities with Argentina’s request for special forensic groups to travel to the Falklands to identify combatants buried in Islands’ unnamed graves.
